Do you ever feel like your life is so busy that you spend all your time running around just trying to keep up? Do you ever feel like you are missing the mark? I mean things still get it done but are they done well? I know I do!
With social media such as Facebook and Instagram, it is so easy to start comparing our life to someone else. Everything looks so perfect online. I call that Comparison Living.
It is so easy to get caught up in beautiful photos and become obsessed with other people’s lives and what they have. And it leaves us feeling empty.
It is said, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Only the problem is that those pictures aren’t telling the entire story. You know they took 300 bad photos before the good one they posted. We all do that!
Also, statics show that a lot of people are reposting other people’s images; that isn’t even their life! The question is how do we survive in a social media world full of beautiful pictures of things and places – that we want NOW!
But let me share something with you: Comparison living is a dead end. Oh sure, you can go out and buy that same lipstick, handbag, watch, or fill in the blank. And you are happy for a few minutes; maybe even a few days.
But inevitably there is a new Instagram post or Facebook photos with something else you have to have. It never stops; and it never satisfies, does it? Are you happy?
Are you living a Beautiful Life?
Stop and think about it. Are you overall content and happy with your life? You might want to ask me, what does that even mean? But the question really is what does that mean to you?
That can be a hard question. I had to ask that of myself a little over a year ago. I found that I was just not happy. Every day. I was caught up with all the fabulous images I’m seeing on TV, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
I felt like, “why isn’t my life like that?!” and “I deserve that!” I was caught up in Comparison Living and it was leaving me unhappy, in debt and feeling like a complete failure at life.
I knew that something had to change. And I also knew it had to start inside my heart. That’s when I sat down and asked myself, what does living a beautiful life mean to me?
I broke that down a little bit with these questions. I urge you to take a few minutes and stop and think about what a beautiful life means to you.
Ask yourself these questions:
- What are 3 things today that you are grateful for?
- What are 3 things that make you happy? This should be personal to you. It could be a place or some activity that you do, etc.
- Is there one thing in your life right now that you would change if you could?
- Why aren’t you making this change?
- What is one thing that you can start doing for yourself today to increase your inner happiness?
A beautiful life requires some effort
To create a beautiful life, it requires you knowing what makes you happy. Not happy for a few days, but deeply, eternally happy. This will look different for every person.
I also feel that a creating a beautiful life is a journey that really starts in your heart. There are no Quick and Easy steps that you can follow and then you magically have it all. It will change and grow and as you change and grow.
It will take some work; there are some things you need to do to create a beautiful life. You need to figure out your priorities and get them straight.
Remember, so much of life is beautiful. Even with the struggles and difficulties we face. It all depends on what you focus on.
So, what do you focus on?
Stay positive. For me, a beautiful life includes feeling gratefulness and happiness every day, having a sense of calm about the direction of my life and having healthy relationships. This give me peace.
As you think about the questions you worked on earlier, I urge you to add these 3 things to your day. Start now and commit to following for the next 30 days:
3 Ways to Start to Live a Beautiful Life:
- Always begin or end your day by being grateful for the blessings you have. I like to make a list at the end of each day of 3 things I’m thankful for.
- Every day when you get up choose to be happy. You never know what the day will bring, but you can decide how to react. You have control of that – choose joy. And surround yourself with positive and happy people.
- Invest in Me Time. Take a small portion of time for yourself even if you have to get up or stay up 20 minutes earlier. I like to read an inspirational book for 20 minutes every morning. I find that I think about it throughout the day.
Mahatma Gandhi famously said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” If you want to see a difference, then start with yourself.
A beautiful life is when you wake up every day looking forward to what the day will bring. You feel fully alive and filled with inspiration. It is a choice you make every single day.
So, if you are ready to start your journey to a beautiful life, you must be purposeful. And you must do some work. But I know that if you follow my 3 steps for 30 days in a row, you will feel a difference. And I am confident that you will be well on your way to Creating a Beautiful Life that You Will Love to Live!
