Am I the only one who struggles with what to wear to work every day? I stand in front of my closet early every morning, half asleep, and discover that I have nothing to wear!
Now, of course I don’t mean that literally. But early in the morning (before my coffee) I don’t have the brain power needed to put together a great outfit.
Getting dressed was so frustrating and time consuming! There have been days where I’d stand staring into my closet for 20 minutes before I came up with something not-that-great to wear. I found that I was wearing outfits that I just didn’t like; that I didn’t feel great in. I also felt like I was in a rut; wearing the same thing over and over.
Well, I got tired of this continuing day after day so I gave it some thought and came up with a solution. Now I can get dressed in under 5 minutes every day and look (and feel) fabulous!
I’m going to share my secret with you. But be warned, you will have to spend a little time preparing. But this will be time well spent!
The first thing you need to do is Inventory Your Closet. Pull out your pants, tops, sweaters, jackets, shoes, and accessories and see what you have to work with. This is a great time to pull out anything that you no longer wear (or love) and get rid of it. It’s best to get unworn items out of the way!
The second thing you will need to do is Find Some Outfit Ideas. My go-to is Pinterest; go there and search for “work outfits” or “spring outfits” or similar to find some outfit ideas. Scroll through the outfits and PIN any that look like your style and/or that are similar to the basic items you have in your closet. Be sure to select outfits that you would feel great wearing.
You can also go to your favorite store website (especially if there is a certain store where you frequent). They usually have outfit ideas there that you can use. It’s a good idea to have 6-10 outfit ideas for work and 3-5 outfit ideas for weekend wear.
Next, you will need to copy those color photos onto a word doc and Print Your Outfit Idea Sheet in color. I find that I can get 6-8 outfits per sheet of paper and I have about 4 pages of ideas per season.
Now, take the color idea sheets and spend a little time to Put Your Outfits Together. This is important in case you need to make slight modifications; i.e. you may not have the same exact blouse as in the photo. It’s also a great time to play with changing out the accessories to make they style fit you.
In other words, just work with what you have and write any modification notes on your Outfit Idea Sheet. If you like, you can even hang the completed outfits (accessories and all) together in your closet so they are ready to grab and go.
And now the magic happens! The next time you need to get dressed to go to work or go out for the weekend, just grab your Outfit Idea Sheet and look through your options. You will find that you can quickly select the outfit that you want to wear for the day, grab it, get dressed and go.
So, with just a little pre-planning and by following my simple Outfit Idea Sheets, you too will be able to get dressed in under 5 minutes a day. And I guarantee that you will look – and feel – fabulous!
