I’ve had such an amazing time sharing with all of you these past couple months. I’m so thrilled Megin gave me this opportunity. It’s been just about a year and a half since my little girl was born and I started getting serious about getting healthier and getting the weight back off, but I didn’t really hit my stride until a year ago.
That was when I was introduced to social dieting and DietBets.
At the time, I was also a new stay-at-home-mom and very focused on saving money to ease the guilt of no longer working. So, it was appealing to me to win money for losing weight, but it made me nervous to pull out that credit card for the first time.
After watching games pass by, I finally got up the nerve to join in. And I went all in! This frugal Momma put $55 on the line in three games. After that first month, I was hooked!
The support in the groups and the motivation of the money was a lightbulb moment for me! This was what I needed to help give me a goal and keep me on track.

I also love that they call themselves “diet agnostic.” Let’s face it, most people fail with diet programs because they can’t stick to them for the long-term. What dietbet does is give someone the motivation and fun to find out what works for them. Healthy lifestyle changes are not one-size-fits-all so this is a great way offer motivation without some sort of plan that likely will not work for the majority of people.
How Does It Work?
I have done countless “kickstarters.” These are the 4 week games where you place your bet and try to lose 4% of your body weight to split the pot with the other winners (or “losers”).
When I first started the games I was so nervous about how my weight would be verified. I was not at all interested in publicly posting my weight and the thought of someone seeing me on the scale was a bit of a nightmare. Now, I’m so comfortable with it I wonder why it made me so nervous. The weight is completely hidden, you wear gym attire for the full body shot, and the referees verify it in no time and you barely think about someone seeing your number. From someone extremely private, let me assure you, it is completely painless.
If you really want some motivation, you can now join “the transformer” and commit to losing 10% of your body weight in 6 months. I just joined one for the first time, but I’m loving it. You still bet each month (pay up front and get a month free) and work toward the huge pot at the end of the 6 months. As an added bit of fun and accountability, they offer prizes for anyone who does a weekly official weigh-in. And, I’m telling you, they are great prizes! Fitbits, Amazon gift cards, Polar HR monitors, scales, and more! The game I’m in now had three winners from the last week – fingers crossed for that HR monitor!

I have joined over 20 games since I started a year ago, and I typically do three at a time. I have lost 50lbs, and I’m positive that number would be much lower without this support and monetary motivation. And how much have I won??? According to dietbetter, my net winnings is over $1,000.

I can’t even believe it! I paid for my Bloggy Bootcamp Conference ticket with some of my winnings, and I have only played on credits ever since I paid for those first games. It really is amazing.
